【Tourist Spot】 World Cultural Heritage Shirakawa-go

Gassho Village in Shirakawa-go is located in the northwestern part of Gifu prefecture and was designated as a “World Cultural Heritage” in 1995.
The roof of the gassho-style house has a triangular shape, which is suitable for a large family built by local residents to withstand severe cold and heavy snowfall.
The name was given because the shape of the house is so sharp that it looks like a closed hand.
